About Henna

There are many styles of henna, all of which can be made into a
custom design to meet your needs, or there are a variety of designs
and patterns to choose from.
Indian Mehndi, Arabic, Gulf style, North African, tattoo style, large
designs, small designs, floral, tribal, and just about any style you can
come up with.
Henna paste is made from a mixture of finely sifted powder from the
leaves of a henna plant, mixed with lemon juice and essential oils
(thats my formula - some people add teas or other ingredients).
Henna is generally hypo-allergenic by nature, although there are
always rare exceptions. Gentler essential oils (or none at all) can be
used if you are particularly sensitive or pregnant. Every henna paste
is mixed fresh and tested for optimal dye quality.
Henna comes out darkest on hands and feet (where it is traditionally
worn), but can make a beautiful design almost anywhere on the body.
Designs can last anywhere from 1 to 4 weeks, depending on the
aftercare, and placement. Hand designs usually last about 2-3 weeks
because of regular hand washing and friction.
For best results, your henna appointment should be made for
2 to 3 days before events like weddings, proms, or baby
showers, etc. That is when the color is darkest and most
vibrant.
Aftercare instructions:
As soon as the henna is completely
dry, you can apply a mixture of lemon
and sugar to the design - just enough
to re-moisten the design, but not
enough to run. The lemon will help
reactivate the henna, while the sugar
will help glue it down.
Try to leave the henna paste as long
as you can, at least 5 hours. After that
the henna can be scraped or rubbed
off. Do not wash the paste off, unless it
becomes bothersome. This can effect
the end result color.
Try to avoid contact with water after
the paste is removed for at least 24
hours since the design was made.
The designs will develop from bright
orange to a dark reddish brown over
the next 24-48 hours, depending on
the area that was hennaed, and your
skin (everyone stains different).
Tips to get darker stains and
longer lasting henna:
Wrap your henna (in paper towel or
toilet paper - nothing that would cause
perspiration) for the night while the
paste is still on. This will make the stain
much darker, and will prevent you from
waking up in crumbs of henna.
Try not to scrub the area for the
duration of the stain. Exfoliation will
make the henna fade faster.
Wear gloves when cleaning (if henna
is on the hands) or just make someone
else do the housework for once!
:-)

Henna paste is made from the
leaves of the henna plant, and put
on the skin in intricate patterns that
leaves a stain on the outer layers
of the skin. The longer henna is left
on the skin the darker the stain will
be. It is recommended that the
paste be left on for a minimum of 4
to 6 hours, preferably overnight.
During the first 24-48 hours after
the paste is removed, the stain will
develop from a bright orange to a
dark reddish brown, or even plum
color on some people. (see right)
While henna is darkest on the
hands (especially the palms) and
feet, a beautiful stain can be
achieved almost anywhere on the
body.
